How To Remove Moisture From Inside My Camcorder

Moisture trapped inside the camcorders lens can be a real problem, but all is not lost. It can be removed, with the proper tools.

You might have to ask your auto repair person for help.

What we will need:

  • Large Jar and Sealable lid with large enough opening for camcorder to fit inside
  • Air Conditioning R12 Guage Set
  • A/C Vacuum Pump With R12 Outlet
  • Heavy Duty Steel Tire Valve Stem (Type that installs with a nut)
  • Adapter to attach gauge hose to tire valve
  • Drill with 5/16 inch or 8mm bit

Remove the camcorders battery, and place the camcorder inside the jar. Drill a hole in the center of the lid. Slide the tire valve through the hole so that the inlet is out the top side, and tighten it down with the nut (See fig. 1).

Place the lid tight on the jar and attach the Guage Sets LOW Pressure hose to the tire valve. Attach the Center hose to the vacuum pump. Make sure the Low Pressure Knob is open and the High Pressure Knob is closed.

Turn on the vacuum pump on and watch the low pressure guage, it should be dropping below ZERO into negative pressure.

The Low Pressure guage should go nearly all of the way to -30, if not there is a leak.

Allow the Pump to run 20 minutes. Afterwards, remove the guage hose and remove the jar lid, remove the camcorder GOOD AS NEW!

How It Works:
Water boils at about 29 inches of vacuum, which is pretty much the same environment as outer space. As the water boils, it expands and exits the lens assembly and goes through the vacuum pump. Dried fruit is processed the same way, so you can now use your camcorder repair jar kit to dry fruit and make beef jerky!

This should work with most camcorders, but I have not tested it on any but my own so Im not resposible if it doesn't work or damages your camcorder in some way.
